XYCOM XVME-951
XYCOM XVME-951 is a VMEbus PC/XT adapter module designed to bridge traditional PC/XT short cards (such as modems and communication modules) with VME-bus CPU modules in a VME system. The module is built in a double-height, double-width form factor (2 U × 2 slots), occupying two VME slots, and is available in two versions:
- XVME-951/1 – Used with CPU modules such as Xycom XVME-684, XVME-686, and XVME-687; connects the PC-bus to the VME P2 interface.
- XVME-951/2 – Used with CPU modules such as XVME-674, XVME-677, XVME-678, and XVME-688; connects the PC-bus to the internal interconnect interface PXT1.
Main Functions and Features
- Bus Bridging: Converts PC/XT short-card bus signals into VME-bus signals, allowing these cards to operate within a VME system.
- Dual-slot Occupation: Occupies two adjacent VME slots to provide adequate routing space and mechanical support.
- Optional Disk Drive Interface: The PCB includes reserved positions that support a stretched 13-inch disk-drive cable for connecting disk-drive modules such as the XVME-955.
- Compatibility: Fully compliant with VMEbus standards and compatible with Xycom PC/AT processor modules as well as other VME-bus-based systems.

After installing the CPU module, ensure the two adjacent slots to its right are empty.

Insert the XVME-951/1 centered within these two slots and push it toward the rear until it seats into the P1 and P2 connectors.

Use the front-panel handle to apply pressure and ensure secure engagement.

Select the appropriate backplane connection method depending on whether the CPU module is a single-board or dual-board design.
